You may have seen the stunning Kalyn Hemphill on season 6 of project runway. She is even more breathtaking in “person” than on camera if you can imagine that. From the brief interaction I had with her during my time in California at an editorial shoot planned by Christianne Taylor, I can also say, the aura that surrounds her is more beautiful than her face. She radiated light, sweetness and peace.
Editing this post, Stacey Kent’s version of “What a Wonderful World” came on my Spotify. I have to say it was serendipitous, because it’s exactly how I felt creating this photo. It’s how I feel when I photograph brides’ on their wedding day… like all the hope in the world is present at that moment. I can imagine it’s how a mother feels to give birth to her children… it’s pure and it’s good and it’s beautiful.
I see trees of green…….. red roses too
I see em bloom….. for me and for you
And I think to myself…. what a wonderful world.
I see skies of blue….. clouds of white
Bright blessed days….dark sacred nights
And I think to myself …..what a wonderful world.
The colors of a rainbow…..so pretty ..in the sky
Are also on the faces…..of people ..going by
I see friends shaking hands…..sayin.. how do you do
They’re really sayin……i love you.
I hear babies cry…… I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more…..than I’ll never know
And I think to myself …..what a wonderful world
Jennifer and James have got to be the most easy going and hilarious couple I’ve ever photographed. Maybe the silly mustaches, Vans and the big plastic sunglasses were your clue? Their wedding took place on a warm August day. These two seemed truly relaxed from start to finish, and for them, the celebration was really all about being surrounded by their family, friends and the love they share. It was one laugh after another and then we all boogied the night away to the mad skills of Wade Breitzke of 27 Entertainment. (Yes, I boogied too! ha)
Jess & Bryan are such a cool couple. I was beyond excited to travel up to St. Joseph, Michigan last summer to capture this special moment in their lives. They met playing hockey, and they’ve been a team ever since. You’ll see they also included a touch of their love for hockey in their day with a “Stanley Cup” cake! I hope you enjoyed this summer sweetness on the shores of St. Joseph, Michigan!
Today’s post is especially fun for me! I was able to shoot a wedding in February in sun saturated Puerto Rico! Kayla is originally from the island and met Tony while at college in Chicago. When it came time to tie the knot… she decided it was only natural to get married in her home town of Fajardo at the Hacienda Carabali… (and I wasn’t complaining!). The funniest part for me was after getting married in a tropical paradise, Kayla asked Tony if they could honeymoon in NYC!! Love that girl. Hilarious.
Not only was I super excited to get out of Chicago to a tropical paradise for a few days, but the trip was made even more amazing because I got to bring my husband along!! He was actually an amazing assistant… I’m not going to lie… I asked him if there was any way he’d like to quit his day job. haha We got to explore the terrain a bit and I’m IN LOVE with that little island. There were amazing beaches… crazy fruits growing everywhere… a RAINFOREST… and the resorts were absolutely lovely. Also, you’ll see below, I paid Jonathan for his help by a round of golf overlooking the ocean;)
My friend Julia Franzosa of Julia Franzosa Photography set up a shoot while her, Emilia and I were in California with this adorable couple. I think since all three of us are so used to the Chicago cold during February, we were itching to get out in that sunshine and shoot, shoot, shoot! Julia was kind enough to ask me to go along, and it was a blast trecking through the California hillside capturing my favorite thing to capture… LOVE<3
If you’re curious about all the stunning colors and flowers blooming in this session… these photos were taken last summer when the world was still a much more colorful place;) It’s sure not the way Chicago looks right now, but I’m hopeful with the sunshine today and warmer temps on the way that we’ll see the blooms again soon!
Kelly and John are the cutest, right? They are obviously best friends along with being the loves of each others’ lives. I adore that they included their beautiful golden, Madison, in the photos too… she was too much!
Fresh off of a day of glitz, glam and learning at the Martha Stewart Wedding Party in Chicago this Sunday, I’m overflowing with excitement about the 2013 wedding season fast approaching! Some highlights from the day were…
The towers and towers of color coordinated edible treats…kind of like the photo below (my phone died right when we got there so no good photos! ha)… very MARTHA if you ask me…
Besides just loving the break out learning seminars and hobnobbing with vendors, I am thrilled about the trends I see developing in the wedding industry right now. I’d like to highlight a few of my favorites:
1. SLEEVES, SLEEVES, SLEEVES!! I am so happy that this trend is being seen all over the bridal runways and has trickled down to real brides. I think it’s so flattering and romantic.
2. Smaller Weddings & Elopements: because I love the idea that a wedding is in fact about TWO people that fell in love at it’s core, I’m so glad that these small intimate events are becoming more popular and less taboo! Check out one of my favorite elopements ever by Jose Villa HERE…
4. GOLD: I’m obsessed with this glittery hue in my every day life and wardrobe, so to see the glitz making it’s way into wedding design everywhere is a dream come true!
How about these adorable little place settings by Katie of Jayne Weddings in Chicago:
and #4 brings me to my last and favorite trend emerging…
5. ELEGANT wedding design: as much as I love a Rustic Wedding like the next photographer, I feel as if the trend of elegance emerging is a breath of fresh air. We’re seeing brighter, bolder colors, rich textures, clean lines and, as mentioned above, all that glitters. It’s fresh, modern, timeless, and classic all at once, and I’m LOVING it!
Gina Montaleone -I wanted to go to this! Looks like it was a great time. My mom and I will be at the CS Brides Ritz event this weekend, will you be there? I love all the emerging trends…that last inspiration board is pretty similar to mine! xo
Catherine Marciniak - These are stunning !!! Love the one of the bottom of the dress/skirt flowing in the wind. So beautiful and romantic !
