Kirsten & Julian {Chicago Engagement Photography}

Kirsten and Julian got married today, so I thought it was only fitting to post a few of their engagement photos as a last hurrah before I left for WPPI and as a congratulations from me to this lovely couple.  I got to know Kirsten through my good friend Lori a little over a year ago and I will never forget my first impression of her.  She was dressed in the most perfect “indie” classy, hippie dress with her vibrant perfectly coiffed hair and those blue/green eyes, and when she talked she was even more warm and lovely than I thought at first glance.  We were able to work together on a wedding last year (she’s also a photographer) and I’ve enjoyed keeping up with her from time to time on Facebook… don’t you love all the connections we get to make in this modern world?

Julian and I met for the first time at the session, and to see his soul deep happy personality and the way that Kirsten brings a twinkle to his eye was simply heartwarming.  I can tell that Julian loves Kirsten just the way she needs to be loved… I know that feeling in my own marriage and it’s really one of my favorite things about lifelong partnership.

Here’s to a lifetime Julian and Kirsten!

Jacqueline is working it:)

For those of you who don’t already know, I brought on an assistant/intern this year to help me with my workload and enable me to expand the business a bit.

This is her;)! Isn’t she pretty?

The thing is, Jaci is not only pretty, but she’s hardworking, competent, professional and sweet!  To add to all of these adjectives, she’s a budding artist herself.  I’m so excited to keep working with her this year to expand her skills and make her an even more integral part of Kina Wicks Photography.

I met her in real life and she is absolutely adorable!!! And her pictures are beautiful as well.

Ruth & Chris {NW Indiana Wedding Photography}

I arrived at Ruth & Chris’s wedding sight unseen since they planned their Indiana wedding from out of town, and I was greeted by a big hug from Ruth.  Ruth personifies two words… POSITIVE ENERGY.  I love people like her!!!  All day long she was smiling, laughing and soaking it all in.  I truly enjoyed working with both Ruth and Chris and their awesome families.   There was enough love to go around every room we stepped into.

I thought the purple details were all so perfect with the backdrop of the pure white snow.  The couple had hoped for snow, so the storm came just in time for Saturday which gave us a blank canvas.  We decided to change a few things and added boots and a blanket- might as well make a snowy fashion statement!  Everyone had a great attitude and kept their teeth chattering to minimum… bravo to you all!

Thank you for allowing me to capture your most special of days Ruth & Chris!!

St. Petersburg, FL

I’m a professional photographer, and I know I use my Canon 5d Mark ii to create my art at this point, but when I go on vacation, I shoot FILM with a simple Canon 35mm camera and a 50 1.8 lens.

I have a few reasons for this… first, I love SEEING and FEELING my photos and not being tempted for them to live forever on a hard drive… or rather slowly dying (possibly more true!).  I love having an instant photo album after getting them developed and scanned at the local Walgreens and picking up a cute 5$ album.

Second, film requires no post production… the color emulsion is built into the film, so it’s as simple as choosing the emulsion you prefer.  I love Fuji 400H:)  With the amount of WORK I’m always buried in, I’m afraid I would never get to it!

Third, there’s a timeless charm about film.  I can’t even place my finger on it, but when I look back at the photos… I think they look like FOREVER.  I like that.

St. Pete in December was not only balmy and beautiful every day, but the people are so friendly, we found a restaurant in town that might be a new all time favorite, and it was a week where we shut our phones off, snuggled a lot and recharged for the year ahead.  Here’s just a few random memories we made…:)

Kina! These pictures are amazing. You are so beautiful and your husband is so handsome! I love this idea of shooting film when on vacation. I bring my 5D but I always bring along a few cameras from my film collection too, I have a lot of lomography cameras. My vacation pictures are usually the only pictures I can find any more because everything else sits on my computer as I never get around to ordering them. Very lovely :) Thank you for sharing!
